Grahame E. Maisey, PE
Chief Engineer
Building Services Consultants, Inc.
Wyncote, PA
Grahame E. Maisey, P.E., LEED® AP is chief engineer for Building Services Consultants, Inc.

He has 40 years experience in environmental control engineering in design, construction and commissioning, practicing in Europe and the USA. Grahame trained in the UK and was one of the first to receive a degree in environmental control engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland.

With academic and design training combined with extensive site experience, he has an understanding and grasp of building energy systems that very few engineers can match. He is considered by many to be the expert in the area of building HVAC systems and commissioning.

Grahame was fortunate to work with the premier commissioning engineers and A/E firms in England in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Working with these companies resulted in an indelible project performance experience. He worked for the first A/E firm to work in design charrettes, which honed his collaboration and whole building integration skills.

He was brought to the United States in the late 1970’s to conduct instrumented energy conservation studies on over 100 hospitals in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. Knowledge gained of how HVAC and energy systems actually perform is invaluable in accurately assessing long-term performance of energy systems. He has since worked on energy studies and design for many different and varied facilities. In 1993, he was asked to dovetail an energy study into a facility master plan on a project, creating our first energy master plan and changing the way we worked from then on.

Grahame has been on ASHRAE technical committees for commissioning, operating and maintenance, and owning and operating costs. He is member of ASHRAE, USGBC, NESEA, SBIC, CIBSE. He has written technical articles on Total Quality Commissioning and Whole Building Dynamic Integration for the Whole Building Design Guide (www.wbdg.org). Grahame has lectured on High Performance, Sustainable HVAC Systems and High Performance HVAC Systems for Optimum IEQ (LEED™).
